2014 Diversity Lottery Guidelines

2014 DIVERSITY IMMIGRATION LOTTERY

Registration Period: October 2, 2012 Noon [GMT-4] until 12:00 Noon [GMT-4] on November 3, 2012

PROCESS:
Must register ONLINE at www.dvlottery.state.gov during the specified dates.
No paper applications will be accepted.

Only ONE application per person. Multiple filings will disqualify you.

There are no fees or costs to file for the lottery. It is FREE to file the application.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be a native of a qualifying country. The following countries are NOT eligible for this Lottery: BANGLADESH, BRAZIL, CANADA, CHINA (mainland-born), COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, ECUADOR, EL SALVADOR, HAITI, INDIA, JAMAICA, MEXICO, PAKISTAN, PERU, PHILIPPINES, SOUTH KOREA, UNITED KINGDOM (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and VIETNAM.

2. Must meet minimum education or experience requirement: high school graduation or equivalent [12 year elementary + secondary education] OR 2 years of work experience in the last 5 years in a job requiring at least 2 years of training. PROCEDURE:

• Submit the completed E-DV form online [Form DS-5501]

• Submit a photograph electronically for the applicant and each family members included in the application. Failure to submit photos of spouse or children under 21 included in the application will result in an incomplete submission.

ONLY ONE entry per person. You will be disqualified if more than one entry is received.

There are NO COSTS or Fees to register. Anyone can prepare the form online, BUT make sure there is only one Lottery application filed on your behalf. More than one application will automatically disqualify you

After registering successfully online, you MUST receive a Confirmation number. If you do not receive this confirmation page with the unique number after submission, you are not registered. Print and keep this page. You will use to the number to check the status of the DV application starting May 1, 2013 on the website www.dvlottery.state.gov

The only way to check the status is with the confirmation number. Keep it secure. You cannot get the number at a later date. The only way to check if you were selected is online on the official website.

You will NOT get an email or any other notification from the government concerning the results of the Lottery. Be alert for scams and con artists that may send an “official-looking” message requesting that you send money to activate your selection in the Lottery. Do not fall for this!!!!

The process and requirements are simple, but strict. Please follow all online instructions carefully.

IMPORTANT: You must include your spouse and unmarried children under 21 years of age even if they do not live with you and might not intend to accompany you to the U.S. You do not need to include spouse or children if they are already permanent residents or citizens of the U.S.

Your spouse and children over 18 can also file their own application and must list all family members and include photos, if they qualify.

PHOTO REQUIREMENTS:
The photo must be digital and submitted electronically with the application. The image must comply with the specifications concerning size, color, background, etc. Photo must be individual photos on JPEG format, maximum image file size is 240 kilobytes (240 KB) and minimum acceptable dimensions are 600 pixels (width) x 600 pixels (height). You can validate your photo online to make sure it meets the requirements. It is highly recommended that you submit the process of the photo validation prior to filling out the online form.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Based on the allocation of visas in each region, the computer will randomly select 50,000 individuals from the qualified entries.

You can check if you were selected at www.dvlottery.state.gov after May 1, 2013. You must have your confirmation number from the initial application. Without this number, you cannot check the status and cannot proceed to the visa process, if selected. There will be NO letters or emails confirming selection.

DV-2014 visas will be issued between October 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014.

Be aware of fraud and scams by knowing that you WILL NOT BE NOTIFIED BY EMAIL OR MAIL of the selection results. You will not have to send any payments by mail, credit card or Western Union. Payment of the visa will be done IN PERSON at the U.S. Embassy, at the time of the appointment.
